| 8/23/2010 | Team Picnic We will be having our annual soccer picnic on Saturday, August 28th after our scheduled games. The JV team plays at 4:30 and Varsity plays at 6pm. The picnic will be at Pendery Park at the picnic shelter.
We are asking for the following:
Seniors & Juniors - bring a package of meat (hamburger/hotdogs/etc.) and the buns for them. Please let me know what you can bring...we are hoping you will be willing to bring a couple packs of something. Sophomores & Freshman - side dish
8th grade - desserts
You will need to bring your own drinks. We are also looking for people who can donate/bring plates, napkins, utensils. Can anyone bring a gas grill? We would like at least 2 if possible. We also will need people to grill if anyone would like to volunteer. We will need parents from the JV or Freshman team that can set up and start grilling during the varsity game so that when that game is over we will be ready. And, we will need volunteers from the Varsity team that will help with clean up. Keep in mind we have approximately 50 players....the picnic is open to players & families so we will have ALOT of people to feed.
Please let me or Joy know if you can help. Thanks, Sue Ann & Joy

| 8/21/2010 | LCA GAME Summary JV started a bit slow giving up 2 early goals. But behind Caroline Kinnett's 4 goals, the Lady Breds came back to win 5-2.
Varsity played a very good match but came up just a bit short losing 2-1 in the last 10 minutes of the game. LCA is a top 15 team in the state in my opinion and you played well against a very Senior / Experienced LCA team.
Area of improvement for both teams is to make sure you are eating and drinking the right things before games and practice. Will send some reading material out tomorrow on nutrition. |
|
| 8/21/2010 | Varsity Team Dinner - THANK YOU THANK YOU TO THE HAGEDORNS FOR HOSTING OUR FIRST TEAM DINNER. WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK THE SEIBERTS, FREEMANS, KELLYS, HUBERS AND HARDESTYS FOR HELPING WITH THE DINNER. |

| 8/19/2010 | Riding Bus Policy For away games that we have to travel (Lexington Christian and Mercy) we are taking a bus for both teams. We will provide a lunch or dinner on the way back for the girls.
If you do not want to ride the bus back you need to do the following. You must have a note from your parent with permission to ride home with them or with another family. If the note is not from your parent(s), then I cannot let you ride home with another family.
All notes must be turned into to me before we leave from school. |
|
| 8/19/2010 | Dixie Summary Both teams started off in the right direction tonight. Varsity won 6-0 and JV won 2-0. The 6 goals on Varsity were scored by 5 different players and the defense kept the Lady Colonels off the board for the shutout. As we discussed we did some things well and there are areas in which we can improve. It is all about getting better and learning how the TEAM can improve in every game.
Congratulations to both teams.
STATS will be updated tomorrow. |

| 7/26/2010 | BGSG RECAP Congratulations to both the Varsity and JV teams!!!
JV - won the gold medal with a 2-1 win over Paul Dunbar HS in the final. In the semi-final match the LadyBreds beat LCA 4-0. They finished the weekend with a 3-0-1 record.
Varsity tied both Lexington Catholic and Manual HS 2-2 in their matches. As I stated before this was the toughest division in the games this year. All 8 teams are top 20 teams in the state. LC and Manual are probably top 10 teams if not top 5. This weekend you proved that you belong to be right there with them. Even though we did not advance due to tie breaker rules...I was very impressed by your work ethic and team chemistry all weekend.
EVERYONE ENJOY MONDAY OFF AND COME READY TO WORK ON TUESDAY. |
|
| 7/23/2010 | BGSG UPDATE PLEASE READ 6:45 PM Just checked both teams in at 5:15PM. There is a heat index alert in Lexington this weekend. Games will most likely have water breaks. Games can be shortened or even canceled due to heat. As soon as I know if a game is canceled/shortend I will put it on the hotline. But plan to go to the games as planned. Most likely this will be a game time decision at the fields by the medical staff.
BRING PLENTY OF WATER. WE WILL HAVE A COOLER FOR ICE AT THE VARSITY GAMES WITH TOWELS. KYRA IS WORKING ON THAT FOR THE JV GAMES...BUT IF SOMEONE CAN BRING A COOLER WITH ICE AND RAGS FOR THE JV GAMES WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.
ALSO JUST MADE AWARE OF THIS AT CHECK IN - FOR JV GAMES BE AWARE THAT THERE IS CONSTRUCTION DELAYS ON BEREA RD. ENTRY AND EXIT TO THE COMPLEX WILL BE FROM IRON WORKS PIKE - THIS IS THE EXIT YOU GET OFF AT. I AM SURE THERE IS SIGNS POINTING YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. |

Everyone must understand and accept their roles on this team. The coaches will coach and the parents will support the team in any way possible. Each is to be respected! Parents do not need to get involved with coaching responsibilities such as playing time, strategy and the determining the roles of the players.
19. Open Door Policy 1. If there is an issue with playing time, then the PLAYER must approach the coaching staff first. However a meeting will never take place with only one coach. 2. If the player has an issue with addressing the coaches on their own, then we would accept a Parent and Player meeting at a time that was convenient for all. However, the meeting will always consist of more than one coach and will be after practice and NOT after a game.

| 10/20/2009 | Regional Game vs NDA and Thank You Ladies,
First of all congratulations to NDA on a well played match.
We are very proud of your effort and heart last night against the #1 ranked team in the state. We definetly gave them a better game than we did a few weeks ago. It took us 20 minutes of the first half to start playing soccer but once we did we gave NDA everything we had.
We have come along way since BGSG. You walked into those games as individuals and you ended the season as a TEAM. We always took steps forward (sometimes they were small steps and sometimes they were big steps) but you never took a step backwards.
We finished with a 10-5-3 records and finished 20th in the state. That makes 11 consecutive years with a winning record and ranked in the state. Can you name any other sports program that can say they have done that the last 11 years at NCC? We were ranked 4th in our district and were never given a chance by the so called soccer experts - but you proved them wrong.
It was a fun season and we enjoyed coaching each one of you. Thank you for all of your effort all season long. Thank you to all of our Seniors for your leadership and heart.
Kevin, Lori, Terry, Ashley, Kyra and Tom. |

| 9/30/2009 | Juggleathon Canceled The Juggleathon scheduled for next Tuesday has been canceled for the following reasons.
1. The plan was to give everyone two weeks to go out and get sponsors, however, the weather over the past week has prevented us from handing out the forms.
2. After reviewing what is on our plate as far as soccer goes, we have alot of games from now until next Tuesday. That does not include any other school activities (ie homecoming).
So I do not feel we could turn this around with our soccer schedule and have a successful fundraiser and have all 50 athletes participate. |

| 5/14/2009 | Acceleration Camp - Info
April 28, 2009
Dear Parent and Athlete,
On behalf of Competitor’s Edge I want to express our excitement in providing training and conditioning for the athletes of Newport Central Catholic. We look forward to providing the best training to each individual enrolled in our programs. Our philosophy is simple. We identify what each athlete needs to do to succeed. Then we teach the most up to date training and conditioning techniques in order for them to master it. We constantly evaluate each person’s physical and psychological performance and introduce on-going challenges to continuously enhance their performance. The end result is a quicker, faster, stronger, more intelligent and confident athlete.
This is a success program! Competitor’s Edge goals for each athlete are much greater than just athletic achievement. We teach and promote hard work as the foundation for success. We utilize the lessons learned through athletics to teach character, leadership and citizenship. Every athlete is encouraged to use those lessons to promote their individual success on and off the field of play. We at Competitor's Edge are honored to be associated with the athletes from Newport Central Catholic and we consider it a privilege to work with them. We want to extend our gratitude by offering an additional two sessions to this year’s program at no additional cost. The ten sessions will run from June 8– July 8 on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:30 – 10:00 am. The cost remains at $225.00 per person. Participants must be registered by May 29, 2009. There is a $25.00 non refundable registration fee.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions at: (859) 442-5800 ext. 164.

Paul A. Bodenbach President

| 10/7/2008 | Spring Select Soccer The following is information on some of the local clubs in the area if you would like to look into playing soccer this spring. It is not mandatory that you play but it is highly recommended.
If you choose to play in the spring, then you should look into all of the level of teams/clubs in your age group and pick one that is the best fit for you.
It is my belief, that in order to improve ones skills and knowledge of the game, then you should continue to play at a high level of soccer.
Again, this is not mandatory that you have to play. I am giving you some options to look into if you are interested. Typically, I will receive calls asking to help find a team for a few of our athletes.
There a bunch of local clubs in the area that you could take advantage of if you choose.

| 9/29/2008 | My Schedule This Week This is now becoming a very hectic week for me. I have a few big projects that are high prioriy. There is a chance that I may not make the game tonight due to a potential late meeting with a few Senior Executives that I can not change and I am not going to ask to change. I will know more as the day goes. |

|
| 9/24/2008 | Juggleathon Moved to Saturday Due to the lack of effort, we are moving the Juggleathon to Saturday at 3:00PM at Pendery Park. This will be done before the Greenwood game. All three teams should be at Pendery at 3:00.
Therefore you now have 3 more days to try to get sponsors. You had 1.5 weeks and were reminded numerous times. It is disappointing the number of athletes that basically did nothing in that time.
Please remember that this fundraiser is going to a good cause in the Boys and Girls Club and will help you have a field to call your own and play home games on in the future. |

The development of the back fields has been a long process and I hope we continue to develop enough interest to make it a top notch facility.
There is still a lot of work to be done this year. The poles and nets need to be finished and the back field needs work.
The goal for next year is to make the back field a practice field only and the front a game only field.

| 7/29/2008 | Attendance at Practice Your attendance at practice is very critical to what team you make for the upcoming season and possibly how much playing time you will see at scrimmages and at the beginning of the season.
The final teams are far from being set.
The only excused absences are if you have a Doctor / Dentist Appt, you are sick, or you have a family emergency. Although I would prefer vacations be scheduled before 7/15, however, I do realize that due to work schedules you have to schedule a family vacation during training.
If you are injured you should still be at practice unless your Doctor states otherwise.
All other absences are unexcused.
Final teams are far from being set for the upcoming season. If you are not there to compete for a spot how can we evaluate you?
Our training schedule has been known since March/April 2008. |

Schedules probably will not be known until the week of 7/20. We have a block of 20 rooms on Friday 7/25 and 40 for Saturday 7/26 at the Lexington Hilton for $119.00 per night. This is your opportunity to get a room.
Please call either (859) 271-4000 or 1 (800) - Hiltons. We are under the Newport Catholic Girls Soccer Team. We have until 7/8/08 to make a reservation. After that I can not guarantee a room. I am asking you to book your reservation ahead of tryouts and selecting teams for the tournament. You can cancel your reservation 24 hours ahead of time. So if you have a room and are not selected you can cancel. The only risk that we have is if the BGSG games are cancelled. This has not happened in over 10 years...so I am not really worried about that. We possibly will have a Pizza Party and do other fun things that are nearby.

3. Dead Period – 6/25 – 7/9 – no activity with coaches
4. Goal Keeper Camp – I am still trying to figure out some dates to have an open Keeper Camp at Morscher. I have asked former NCC Keeper April Gibson to run the camp. More info will be emailed soon.
5. NKU Team Camp – July 10 – 14 (Thursday – Monday). Cost is $115 if paid before June 1st. Camp is at T&C from 9:00 AM to 12:50 PM.
Camps are not mandatory.
6. Summer Work Outs Prior to 7/15 – I will plan a few sessions at Morscher or Pendery after school is out. Look for an email from me.
7. Physicals – No date has been set at NCC yet. I will email you as soon as it is set. You must have a physical before 7/15. NO PHYSICAL = NO TRYOUT!
8. New Shin-Guard Rule from the State
9. Tryouts – Tryouts will start either on Tuesday 7/15 or Thursday 7/17 depending on the number of athletes that attend the camp. Tryouts will be 3 days long unless the coaching staff decides to extend by a day. Tryouts will be held at Morscher (except for the running portion which will be held at Pendery). Tryouts will go from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. If we have tryouts on Saturday, you can plan that it will be early in the morning. Players making a team will be listed on the website. Final teams will not be announced until the start of the season. Currently the plan is to have a Freshmen Team. Therefore we will not cut any Freshmen (depending on class size).
10. 8th Grade Tryouts (If necessary) – will be held on Wednesday 7/23 at Morscher at 6PM.
11. Tentative Practice Schedule – typically Monday – Thursday and Saturday. Practices are closed. You can come 15 minutes before practice ends. · 7/21-7/24 at Morscher 6 to 8:30 PM · 7/28 – 7/31 at Morscher 6 to 8:30 PM · 8/2 at Morscher TBA · 8/4 – 8/7 at Morscher 6 to 8:30 PM · 8/9 at Morscher TBA · 8/11 – 8/21 at Morscher 6 to 8:30 PM (8/12 – scrimmage at LCA)

13. Bluegrass State Games – The plan is to send 2 teams to the BGSG 7/25-7/27. We have a hotel contract already. Look for an email as we get closer for hotel information.
14. 2008 Schedule – please check website for more details
15. Need Volunteers for the following: · Gate · Concessions · T-shirt Orders · Parent Coordinators for each team · Varsity Team Dinners · Organize Juggle-Athon · Pendery – Set up (most likely on 8/9)
16. Important Dates to Remember Physicals - TBA Team Pictures – TBA Set Up Pendery – Saturday 8/9 Varsity vs. JV Scrimmage – Sunday 8/10 at Morscher TBA Parent Game – Sunday 8/10 at Morscher TBA Alumni Game – Sunday 8/10 at Morscher TBA Team Picnic – Sunday 8/10 at Morscher TBA Soccerama – Varsity Only 8/16 at Highlands
17. Morscher Field Update – Fields need a lot of work. NCC does not have the funds to put into the fields at the current time. So we need help with watering, filling in low spots, and seeding.
18. Substance Abuse Policy – will hand out to the players after tryouts.
19. Team Rules – will hand out to players after tryouts.
18. Parent Roles · Support the Soccer Program · Support your daughter and her teammates · Support the coaching staff · Respect the opposing team and the officials
Everyone must understand and accept their roles on this team. The coaches will coach and the parents will support the team in any way possible. Each is to be respected! Parents do not need to get involved with coaching responsibilities such as playing time, strategy and the determining the roles of their daughters.
19. Open Door Policy 1. If there is an issue with playing time, then the PLAYER must approach the coaching staff first. 2. If the player has an issue with addressing the coaches on their own, then we would accept a Parent and Player meeting at a time that was convenient for all. However, the meeting will always consist of more than one coach and will be after practice.

We were very overwhelmed with the losses caused by the fire but the generosity and concern of so many people was very comforting. As you know, our family has had some blows over the last few years. We've lost loved ones and then our home, but with each sad event we were surrounded by friends like you to hold us up. We know how lucky we are to be a part of the NCC Community! Thank you for all you have done for us. The Giesler Family

| 2/25/2008 | Congratulations to Kristy Ruscher Jones Congratulations goes to Kristy Ruscher Jones for being selected to the NCC Hall of Fame. Kristy is a 1993 graduate of NCC. Kristy becomes the first female soccer player to enter the Hall of Fame. Kristy is the current leader for goals scored in a career at 59. We will honor Kristy at one of our homes games this season. Kristy's profile is below.
KRISTY RUSCHER JONES ~ 1993
Kristy Ruscher Jones is the daughter of Cass ‘65 and Mike Ruscher ‘61. She was the fourth in her family to graduate from the Newport Catholic/Our Lady of Providence family. Besides her mom and dad, her older brother Michael also graduated from the school in 1989.
Kristy graduated from Newport Central Catholic in 1993 earning a total of 10 varsity letters. She played soccer under Coach Jim Dollar, basketball under Coach Carl Foster, and softball under Coach Jenny Mertle. She was voted team captain and MVP of each team.
In soccer, Kristy started as a freshman and eventually set the school’s all-time goal scoring record with 59 goals scored. She was named a Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference All Star in her sophomore, junior and senior years. As a junior, Kristy was named a Famous Recipe “Star of the Week” and led the 9th region in goals scored.
In basketball, Kristy was a starter for two years. She was named to the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference All Star team and to the All District team in both her junior and senior years. She was a Famous Recipe “Star of the Week” as a senior and also was a member of the Kentucky Enquirer’s Girls All Star basketball team as a junior. Kristy finished her basketball career with over 900 points scored.
In softball, Kristy was a four year starter. As a senior, she was named the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conferences Division II Player of the Year and was a member of the Kentucky Girls Sports Association All State Softball team. She was selected to the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference’s All Star team as both a junior and a senior.
Kristy gave up an opportunity to play college sports, instead accepting a full academic scholarship to Northern Kentucky University where she earned both her Bachelor‘s and Master‘s degrees. She never gave up her love of sports though, as she is now the physical education and health teacher at Southgate Public School. In 2003, Kristy earned her National Board certification in Physical Education. Currently, Kristy resides in Cold Spring, Kentucky with her husband Kurt and their two daughters, Makenzie (6) and Abigail (4).

Parents do not need to get involved with coaching responsibilities such as playing time, strategy and the determining the roles of their daughters or other players on the team.
19.Player Open Door Policy If there is an issue with playing time, then the PLAYER must approach the coaching staff. The meeting will always consist of more than one coach and will be after practice.
